Backup and Restore Validation SOP
Purpose
Prove that protected systems can be restored within agreed RPO/RTO instead of merely reporting successful backup jobs.
Decision Summary
Mandatory CSI deployment control for applicable work; client-specific implementation requires approved scope and change authorization.
Use Cases
Servers, VMs, databases, containers, cloud services, endpoints and client datasets.
Field Notes
A green backup job is not proof of recovery. Never overwrite the only source during testing, keep keys only with backups or declare compliance without restore evidence.
Hardware Requirements
Separate backup target, immutable/offsite copy where required, encryption keys, isolated restore environment and adequate restore capacity.
Backup Strategy
Preserve configuration, credentials references, certificates/keys, application data and deployment documentation according to the workload-specific RPO/RTO.
Recovery Strategy
Maintain a documented rollback and tested restoration path before production change; validate service, data, access and monitoring after recovery.
Secure Boot Notes
Secure Boot state and encryption keys must be captured for bare-metal recovery; never disable security controls without authorization.
Version History
v1.0 created 2026-08-04 as the baseline CSI deployment and validation procedure.
